Rani Gaidinliu: Rebellion, Faith, Freedom — A Historical Biography

Rani Gaidinliu: Rebellion, Faith, Freedom is a serious historical biography of one of the most remarkable personalities of twentieth-century Northeast India.

Born at Luangkao in Manipur in 1915, Gaidinliu entered the religious and political movement led by Haipou Jadonang while still in her youth. Following Jadonang’s execution in 1931, she emerged as a leading figure in the resistance against British colonial authority.

Captured in 1932 at only seventeen years of age, Gaidinliu spent many years in British prisons. Her struggle later attracted the attention of Jawaharlal Nehru, who campaigned for her release and helped bring her story into the wider Indian nationalist consciousness.
